Bring Tha Noize, Boys!!!

BOYS NOIZE RECORDS:

My final post on record labels, and i really did leave the best 'til last. The label of labels in my opinion, at least at the moment, and their recent compilation marked that...

Alex Ridha, his productions, remixes and collaborations can and will always keep me entertained... Other notable artists on the label include D.I.M., Les Petits Pilous, Strip Steve, Shadow Dancer, Siriusmo & PUZIQUe (of which Ridha is half).

For the tunage, the A-side of the labels very first release, then one from Eastwest (Boys Noize & Housemeister) only release. Third, and final, is one off their more recent releases, enjoy...

Boys Noize - Optic

Eastwest - Easy Come Easy Go

Les Petits Pilous - Going Techno (zshare)

It Really Is Great Stuff...

GREAT STUFF RECORDINGS:

I first noticed the name Great Stuff Recordings when i got the track 'Fergie - Ireland' off the Great Summer Games Stuff. I then realised (via the standout artwork) that i had already a decent amount of their releases in my library...

I dont have the track Ireland up, but get it if you can. A delightfully named and produced techno track. The tracks are just a handful (three) from their string of releases, enjoy...

Jean Claude Ades & Vincent Thomas - Shingaling (zshare)

RePoSt: Melee Beats Interview

Since my interview was taken down I havent really had anything to post on, so im re-posting this, and then i'll finish my string of posts re: Record Labels...

MELEE BEATS:

INTERVIEW:

1. So, first off, when was it you started dabbling in the art of producing. Also what software / hardware was it you first used?

I started in the Fall of 1998; I was introduced to FLStudio (then called Fruity Loops) by my half-brother. It wasn’t very good at the time, you could only program drum loops, but it kept me entertained for quite a while, and I kind of grew with the program.

2. As ive read before, melee beats is the disco of 70's, the synthesis of the 80's and 90's house! Which of those is your favourite era, and, which do you think stands out more in your productions?

Disco, funk, and soul are my favorite, but that’s only what I like to listen to. I love to dance to 80s, and I like to tie it all together with house/electronic beats. I think a lot of each comes through, but predominately there’s a lot of 80s sequencing and sounds. They all correlate somehow, though!

3. Is there anybody, from your childhood to now, that you would love to collaborate with, in any form?

Quincy Jones – his work on the Michael Jackson albums is phenomenal. Or Stevie Wonder for sure.

4. What is on Melee Beats' current playlist at the moment, and, what is the last record/single/mp3 you purchased?

I picked up the CRS/Pusha T remix of N.E.R.D.’s “Everyone Nose” and have been rotating that heavily. It is a little slow for some people, but I think the beat is phenomenal and Lupe Fiasco comes through with an awesome verse. Besides that, the new Soulwax remixes that are coming out are fantastic, MGMT, and DJ Kue’s new remixes are all getting heavy rotation.

5. Who do you think is going to be big in the not so distant future?

Well, we’ve encountered a LOT of gimmicks associated with productions acts, and an onslaught of new-French electro/fidget/whatever. Many people will say that’s the current hot thing, but I honestly think it is declining. It is being overdone and overexaggerated, just like filtered disco was towards the end of its run. I think the electronic crossover bands like Soulwax, !!!, and LCD Soundsystem will lead the next wave of music. It is very hard to say what is currently on the cutting edge, but there will definitely be a shift coming. I have a hard time keeping up!

6. Finally, do you have anything in line for after the release of 'Triumph'?

I am working with my longtime friend and performance DJ Kue for a new club-oriented album that is really going to take people by surprise. There are some restrictions placed upon the Melee Beats title that make it difficult to do some of the things I’m doing on this album; all I can say is that it will be a very, very innovative and listenable club record! I’ve also finished three tracks off of my next album “Hot Damage,” which could be out in the first quarter of 09...

WTF???

DELETION:

Yesterday I received an email from the Blogger DMCA with regard to the post I created with the interview of Melee Beats (now deleted...). So can anyone tell me, what copyrights i've infringed, as I received permission from the man himself??
It's quite a confusing letter, so any help would be cool, just really pissed as i've lost the mp3 links....

Granted it was Justice that got me listening for more on Pedro's label, but as soon as i heard SebastiAn I never looked back. To this day he is my favourite dj/producer/remixer etc.

The Ed Rec crew started off really strong with strings of releases from UIffie, Justice, SebastiAn, and the rest, and they really started something with their volume compilations.

Anywho the tunes are just a random selection from the main artists, enjoy...

PANTHA DU PRINCE:

First discovered this German legend, Hendrick Weber, when I heard Steiner Im Flug (not up but check it out). His most recent album, 'This Bliss', is a masterpiece in my eyes.

Pantha du Prince - Walden 2

Depeche Mode - Lilian (Pantha du Prince Remix)

------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------

[T]EKEL:

Don't know much about these guys, Julien Briffaz & Loic Le Guillou, except that they've had a good few, top notch releases on 'Initial Cuts' since 2003.

...E† Jus†ice Pour †ous

JUSTICE:

Since i started blogging i have been posting specifically on my favorite artists. Then i devised a plan to keep covering my favorite artists, so far has been my fav. electro artists, with a couple more posts to go. On completion i will then move on to my electronic side of music, and possibly after maybe cover my most admired labels, you know what can be expected of that.

Anywho, this post is on Xavier De Rosnay & Gaspard Auge, but focused mainly on the unofficial remixes of their MASSIVE tunes. I have, in a way, compiled an album of unofficial remixes (track list below), of my personal choice, the best of the best as it were.

I plucked a trio to download. If you would like any more, or if you know of any other decent remixes (unofficial), drop me a line, enjoy...

Australia Covered... ...well the best two in my eyes

CUT COPY:

Signed to Modular, leading his band C//C, Dan Whitford has come a long way from small time DJing. Joined by Tim Hoey and Mitchell Scott, the trio recently released their sophomore album. Although I prefer their debut, 'In Ghost Colours' is fresh and interesting, but its tracks failed to make my favourites.

They are, my favourite track from their debut, an old song, and a mix of another aussie outfit Van She.

Cut Copy - Saturdays

Cut Copy - Glittering Clouds

Van She - Kelly (Cut Copy Remix)

----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------

THE PRESETS:

Kimbereley Isaac Moyes & Julian Hamilton, another Modular set, hailing from Sydney. Although Hamilton focuses mainly on this project, Moyes is involved with Coda and Prop, and has released many of his own productions under the pseudynom KIM.

For the tunes, an early song, a single track release, and a rare remix, enjoy...

The Presets - Cookie

The Presets - Truth & Lies

Silverchair - Straight Lines (The Presets Remix)

Dim Out Tha Lights

ANDI MEID:

As one half of PUZIQUe and Tonic People, D.I.M. has made quite a name for himself, with his stand out productions, remixes and collaborations.
The first song listed below is the first i heard of him, played by Erol quite a bit. I found PUZIQUe through Ridha, and I have followed avidly since.

Enjoy the tunes below, especially the second, taken from their 'Thomas' EP...

D.I.M. - Sysiphos

PUZIQUe - Chemie

Shameboy - Heartcore (D.I.M. Remix)

Death By Proxy

PROXY:

With just two releases on Turbo Recordings, Proxy's material has got a lot of play from the big guys around the world. I personally think their style is genius, original and downright eargasmic.

For the audio, a b-side, a remix of their single (Destroy) and one they did for Chromeo, Enjoy...

Proxy - Din Dah

Proxy - Destroy (Riot In Belgium Edit)

Chromeo - Tenderoni (Proxy Distort Mix)

Sweden Has A Mafia?

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA:

Prydz, Angello, Ingrosso & Axwell. The four swedes, all at the top of their game.

First artist, Eric Prydz, also known as Pryda, Cirez D, Moo and Sheridan. He also runs the labels Pryda Recordings, Pryda Friends and Mouseville.
Second, Steve Josefsson Fragogiannis (Angello), also known as Who's Who?. He is one half of Buy Now and runs the label Size Records.
Third, the other half of Buy Now, is Sebastian Ingrosso. He works very closely with Angello, under various pseudynoms, and has produced for many big names.
Final artist, and my favourite, Axel Hedfors (Axwell). Probably the biggest name in house at the moment, with clever remixes, big collaborations, and solid productions. His houselabel, Axtone Records, is also up and rising.

For the tunes, its kind of a 6 step from Prydz to Axwell. First, a Prydz remix, then Prydz with Angello, an Angelo remix, Angello with Ingrosso (Buy Now), an Ingrosso mix, Ingrosso with Axwell and finally an Axwell remix! God that's a mouthful, enjoy...

Blur - Song 2 (Eric Prydz Mix)

Eric Prydz & Steve Angello - Woz Not Woz

Goldfrapp - Number 1 (Steve Angello Remix)

Buy Now - Secret Weapon

Eric Prydz - Proper Education (Sebastian Ingrosso Mix)

Sebastian Ingrosso & Axwell - It's True

Dirty South - Let It Go (Axwell Remix)

The Mother Goose

GOOSE:

All hail mother Goose. Four belgians who put out some class material, and even harder remixes, always go down nicely. Go see these guys, live or on the decks, however you can.

For the tunes, a bonus track, extended mix, and a kick ass remix. Enjoy...

Goose - Audience (Bonus Track)

Goose - Black Gloves (Extended Mix)

The Cribs - Men's Needs (Goose Remix)

Don't Touch That Switch

SWITCH:

Dave Taylor, a man of many names. Solid Groove, A. Brucker and Modeler. He has collaborated with many, including Gilles Peterson, Jesse Rose, Graeme Sinden, Jamie Anderson amongst others.

For the tunes, i would have put up the Mystery Jets mix, as i love it, but the blogs are polluted with it (for a reason). So instead i picked my other favourites, enjoy...

Switch - A Bit Patchy (Club Mix)

Spank Rock - Bump (Switch Remix)

The Black Ghosts - Face (Switch Mix)

Klaxons - Golden Skans (Switch Remix)

They've Mastered Their Craft

MSTRKRFT:

Jesse F. Keeler & Al
Puoudziukas (JFK & Al-P). Ever since 'Romantic Rights', a JFK performed and Al-P produced song, i have followed these guys thoroughly. The bonus disc on 'You Are A Woman, I'm A Machine' (Erol, Justice etc.) probably pushed my interest in the genre i love so (Electro Goddammit).

For the tunes, one of their best from their album, 'The Looks', a remix of their own and an old enough remix they did. Enjoy...

Mstrkrft - Easy Love

Mstrkrft - Street Justice (MSTRKRFT Remix)

Buck 65 - Kennedy Killed The Hat (MSTRKRFT Dance Remix)

Simian's Disco Gone Mobile

For the tunes, my favourite remix, and a dub of one of their own.

Simian Mobile Disco - It's The Beat (Dub)

Peaches - Downtown (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)

La Ghetto Knight

SURKIN:

Benoit Heitz
, one of my first interests in electronic music. When first hearing his songs, such as 'Radio Fireworks' and 'Ghetto Obsession', the words that came to mind were positive, upbeat and very colorful (if music can be colorful).

Even his latest release, 'Next of Kin', holds those values. As for the audio today, an old original, and a rare spoke about remix.

Surkin - Play Do

Justine Electra - Killalady (Surkin Remix)

Something Old, Something New

LA REMIXÉ:

Two outstanding remixes, almost 12 years in between their individual release.

The first is an odd take on the ever so popular 'Pogo'. The second i became acquainted with through DP's live sets. Enjoy!

Digitalism - Pogo (Hey Today! Remix)

Gabrielle - Forget About The World (Daft Punk Remix)

Better Sunday On Drugs

DEADMAU5:

Joel Zimmerman, an absolute genius Canadian producer, moved up in the world via the Internet, the main source, if not the only source, for most of his material. A lot of his remixes became quite popular, very quick, more so than his original tunes. This guy is also one half of legendary BSOD

Anyway, for the music, two songs, extremely standout in his collection. Enjoy..

Deadmau5 - Not Exactly

These tracks are my personal favourite from Alex.

Major Inspiration

DIGITALISM:

Isi & Jence, one of the greatest electronic acts ever. Ever since 'Zdarlight' I have followed their every release, remix etc. Their live sets should be an inspiration to all.

The tunes, a massive remix, and an old, yet cool as fuck original, enjoy.

Digitalism - Bez'z

Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again (Digitalism Remix)

The Man Who Started It All

EROL ALKAN:

I first heard Erol when, unknowingly, i walked into where he was playing at a festival a few years ago. He was dropping 'Killing in the Name', which of course caught my attention. From then on I began downloading his live mixes (Available as Podcast) etc. etc. and here we are.

This guy goes under various aliases, including: Mustapha 3000, Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, Kurtis Rush (R.I.P.).

The following tracks are remixes under his main guises;

Introduction

This is me explaining this blog.

Basically, I intend to focus each post on a particular artist , possibly a new/classic track from that artist, accompanied by a remix of/by that artist. Then now and again, maybe some mixes, cool links, good buys etc. Hope to get feedback, good or bad, from anyone.

Happy Blogging!
